Full Stack Tech Lead – Turn “functional” into “exceptional”

Sydney | 5 days in the office | Big Wave Digital

Let’s be clear.

This is not a “manage a few tickets and keep things ticking” role.

This is own the experience customers live in every day.

The Company

You’ll be joining a high-growth fintech.

Serious scale.
Serious complexity.
And a product that customers don’t just use… they rely on.

This is a business where:

  • Frontend isn’t an afterthought
  • Performance is commercial
  • And experience = retention

They’re investing heavily in their platform right now.

Rebuilding. Refining. Raising the bar.

The Mission

You own the customer experience layer.

Not just UI.

Not just components.

The entire feel of how the product behaves once someone logs in.

Client portals.
Real-time interfaces.
Retention flows.
High-frequency user interactions.

This is where customers decide whether they stay.

And that’s what you’re responsible for.

What You’ll Actually Do

You’ll lead with frontend. But you won’t hide behind it.

You will:

  • Set the frontend standard across the entire product ecosystem
  • Build fast, responsive, accessible interfaces in React at scale
  • Partner tightly with Product + Design to close the gap between “what was designed” and “what users actually feel”
  • Own performance properly — not just Lighthouse scores, but real-world conditions
  • Work across the stack when needed — APIs, data shaping, service layer
  • Spot and fix the subtle stuff most teams ignore
    • Layout shift
    • Interaction latency
    • Rendering bottlenecks

You’re not here to ship features.

You’re here to make the product feel right.

What Matters Here

This role is for someone who cares about craft.

The kind of engineer who:

  • Has deep React experience — architecture, state, rendering performance
  • Understands Core Web Vitals as a baseline, not a bonus
  • Builds with accessibility baked in (WCAG, semantic HTML, ARIA)
  • Thinks cross-device, cross-network, real-world usage
  • Can move into backend when needed without friction
  • Works with designers, not downstream from them

Bonus points if you’ve:

  • Built data-heavy interfaces (tables, charts, real-time data)
  • Worked in fintech, trading, or regulated environments
  • Mentored engineers and raised the bar without being asked

The Environment

Let’s address it upfront.

5 days in the office. Sydney. Non-negotiable.

Why?

Because this team moves quickly.

  • Decisions happen in real time
  • Problems get solved on the spot
  • Engineers, product, and design sit together and build properly

This is not a slow, async environment.

It’s high ownership. High standards. High pace.

Why This Role Exists

Because good frontend isn’t enough anymore.

They need someone who can:

👉 Turn complexity into clarity
👉 Turn performance into retention
👉 Turn “functional” into “exceptional”

Apply

If you’re the kind of engineer who notices when something is 50ms too slow…

…and it bothers you…
