Hi, my name is Sanjana and I went from The Netherlands to Sydney to do a Digital Marketing Internship at Big Wave Digital Recruitment.
Going abroad for an internship is yet one of the best things that happened to me.
Going on the adventure on your own and getting a new view on doing Business in another country is one experience that is sealed into my resume.
For the past few months, I have been working and taking care of Big Wave Digitals, Website, EDM, LinkedIn and YouTube platforms.
With the help of Keiran and his brilliant team, I made it through my 3-month internship while getting the most out of it, for a kick start in my future careers.

Then get ready because here are 4 tips, that no one tells you about nailing an internship!
Disclaimer: This is not only to make your boss happy but also to broaden your knowledge and skills!
Tip 1: Do internship-oriented research into the company which you will intern for!!
I can’t stress this enough, but there is ZERO point in doing company research if you don’t orientate it on your internship.
For example, you’re going to do a Marketing internship. The first thing that you should dig into is the goal and the message of the company.
So don’t just randomly start to look into their financial situation, or how much revenue they made in a year.
It may be interesting, but that is not what Your internship is about.

Tip 2: Have professional behaviour and present yourself as you described yourself.
I get it, in job interviews, we try to shine a little extra and present the best version of ourselves.
But none of that should be less true if you actually have to work.
Just imagine you signed up for this amazing internship where you learned that you’re going to do the most amazing and interesting activities.
But then when it comes to the internship you realised that you are not going to do all the fun stuff that was told to you.
A disappointment, right?
This goes the same for the hiring recruiter who hired you for the internship.
Of course, presenting yourself in your best version is important.
But don’t take things over the top, until you describe yourself as someone else.
Together, having professional behaviour sets you apart and shows that you are trustable.
This then leads to more skill-worthy tasks which will satisfy you in the long run.

Tip 3: Use the search engine for questions FIRST!
It is 2022 guys! We have Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia and many more platforms to make use of.
So use them if you come across something in your task that you don’t understand or need inspiration for.
This will not only show that you can solve problems on your own but also gives you that extra knowledge on things you did not know about!
Discovering things yourself is 99% more effective in the long term than most people think it is.
Of course, don’t copy and paste, being creative with information can make you stand out!

Tip 4: Be present in the moment. (think about; live in the moment)
Yes, of course, you have to show up at the internship but that is not what this tip is about as that is common knowledge.
Listening over talking. Know what is going on at the present moment.
For example, If you get a task for posting outstanding content on social media, without further context.
Then you would think “yes this is where I use Tip 3”
You go to Google and search for posts related to the field and the mission of the company.
Then you and many others must be thinking: “yes let’s think out of the box and go all in with the search Engine”
But wrong…
If everyone is thinking out of the box, then who is thinking in the box?
No one!
Yes, exactly and that is where original content lies.
Now let’s say that your boss today was excitedly talking about this rising NFT.
And he just would not shut up about how amazing it is.
Ding ding ding!! That is content you can use for your post!
Since you read my blog you know that being present in the moment is a must and that your boss’s interests are now content
That’s why I always go by, work smarter not harder!
Pssst… Working hard is still very much appreciated but do it efficiently! *whispers*
