Sydney’s digital marketing job market has entered the second half of 2026 in a curious state: steady on the surface, restless underneath. National wage growth has cooled to 3.3 per cent for the year to the March quarter according to the ABS Wage Price Index, with private sector wages up 3.2 per cent. Marketing salaries in Sydney are broadly tracking that average, but the averages hide a widening split. Generalist roles are moving with inflation or slightly under it, while anything touching performance data, lifecycle automation, analytics or AI enabled workflows is being bid up well beyond it. If you hire marketers, or you are one, the headline number matters less than which side of that split your role sits on.
This guide covers what every digital marketing role pays in Sydney right now, from coordinator to CMO, plus contract and freelance day rates. Every range is drawn from job platform and public data: SEEK career advice pages, Indeed salary data, Glassdoor, Payscale and the ABS. We do not use recruitment agency salary guides as sources. All figures are in Australian dollars and reflect base salary excluding superannuation unless noted, because that is how the major platforms report. Where sources disagree, and they often do, we give you the spread and say so. These ranges are a snapshot as at July 2026.
How to read these ranges
Each role below shows a LOW, MARKET and HIGH figure. LOW is what smaller businesses, junior end candidates or roles outside the core CBD market typically pay. MARKET is the band where most Sydney offers land for a competent candidate with solid experience. HIGH is what strong candidates with in demand skills command at well funded companies, and it is not a ceiling: genuine outliers exceed every range here.
Platform data lags the live market by a few months because it is built on advertised and reported salaries, so treat the HIGH end as closer to what a contested offer looks like today. Note also that Indeed averages skew lower than Glassdoor and SEEK for identical titles, partly because Indeed captures more small business roles. Where a platform average sits oddly against the others, we flag it rather than smooth it over.
Coordinator and specialist roles
Marketing Coordinator
The entry point to the profession pays LOW $60,000, MARKET $68,000 to $75,000 and HIGH $82,000 in Sydney. Sources vary more here than almost anywhere else: Indeed reports an average of $71,776 while Payscale puts the Sydney average nearer $64,000. What moves a coordinator up the band is ownership of channels rather than admin support: running the email calendar or paid social reporting end to end is worth real money even at this level.
Marketing Executive
A step up in autonomy pays LOW $70,000, MARKET $75,000 to $85,000 and HIGH $92,000. The title is used loosely in Sydney, so pay tracks the actual scope. Executives who own a channel budget and report on return rather than activity move to the top of the band quickly, and this is the level where a first specialisation, usually paid media or SEO, starts to lift earning potential.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Sydney specialists earn LOW $80,000, MARKET $85,000 to $100,000 and HIGH $110,000. SEEK puts the national average between $85,000 and $100,000, and Sydney sits at the top of that national band. Candidates who can run campaigns across paid, organic and email without hand holding, and who bring platform certifications plus working AI fluency, push into six figures faster in 2026 than they did a year ago.
Performance Marketing Specialist
Performance specialists earn LOW $85,000, MARKET $95,000 to $110,000 and HIGH $125,000. This is one of the tightest talent pools in Sydney. Employers pay for demonstrated return on ad spend at scale, and a specialist who has managed monthly budgets above $100,000 across Google and Meta with clean measurement will beat the MARKET band. Expect performance bonuses tied to targets to appear at this level, typically 5 to 10 per cent of base.
Paid Media and PPC Manager
Managers running paid channels earn LOW $90,000, MARKET $105,000 to $130,000 and HIGH $145,000 or more. Glassdoor reports a Sydney average of $115,833 for performance marketing managers, with the 75th percentile at $141,750 and top earners reported to $174,000. The spread is wide because scope varies wildly: a PPC manager on a single account is a different job from one owning a seven figure multi channel budget, and pay reflects it.
SEO Specialist and SEO Lead
SEO specialists earn LOW $75,000, MARKET $85,000 to $100,000 and HIGH $112,000 to $120,000. Glassdoor puts the Sydney average at $90,000, about 17 per cent above the national figure, with the 90th percentile at $112,000, while Indeed reports $86,291. SEO Leads who own strategy and manage others earn $120,000 to $140,000. The premium in 2026 goes to practitioners who can speak to AI search visibility as fluently as traditional rankings, because clients are asking about both.
Content Marketing Manager
Content marketing managers earn LOW $95,000, MARKET $105,000 to $120,000 and HIGH $135,000. Pure content production has been commoditised by AI tooling, so the band rewards judgment: managers who tie content to pipeline, run distribution properly and use AI to multiply output rather than replace thinking sit at the top. Those managing writers and an editorial budget edge towards senior manager money.
Social Media Manager
Sydney social media managers earn LOW $70,000, MARKET $80,000 to $95,000 and HIGH $105,000 or more. Glassdoor reports a Sydney average of $85,000 with a typical range of $70,125 to $104,250, and Indeed sits close by at $82,705. Payscale trails at around $71,000, a reminder that sources vary. Short form video capability and paid social skills, not just community management, are what move candidates up this band.
Email and Lifecycle Marketing Manager
Lifecycle managers earn LOW $90,000, MARKET $100,000 to $115,000 and HIGH $130,000. Retention economics have made this one of the quiet winners of 2026: acquiring customers keeps getting dearer, so businesses pay properly for people who grow revenue from the database they already own. Deep platform skill in Klaviyo, Braze or Salesforce Marketing Cloud plus genuine segmentation and testing discipline earns the HIGH end.
CRM Manager
CRM managers earn LOW $100,000, MARKET $110,000 to $130,000 and HIGH $145,000. Glassdoor reports CRM marketing specialists averaging $100,000 nationally, and manager level roles in Sydney clear that comfortably. The band rewards commercial ownership: a CRM manager accountable for retention revenue and customer lifetime value, rather than platform administration, is a six figure hire everywhere in this market.
Marketing Automation Specialist
Automation specialists earn LOW $85,000, MARKET $95,000 to $110,000 and HIGH $121,000 or more, in line with the Glassdoor national range of $84,000 to $121,000. Marketo and Pardot skills remain scarcer than Mailchimp and HubSpot skills and price accordingly. Specialists who can wire automation platforms into a wider martech stack, and increasingly into AI agents and workflow tools, are drifting towards martech manager pay.
Growth Marketer and Growth Lead
Growth marketers earn LOW $95,000, MARKET $110,000 to $130,000 and HIGH $150,000 or more, with Indeed reporting a Sydney average of $114,187. Growth Leads at funded startups and scaleups earn $140,000 to $160,000, and this is the individual contributor role where equity most often enters the conversation. The premium goes to marketers who run experiments with statistical honesty and can show compounding acquisition improvements, not just channel management.
Product Marketing Manager
Product marketing pays LOW $110,000, MARKET $130,000 to $150,000 and HIGH $170,000 or more. Sources disagree sharply here: Glassdoor puts the Sydney average at $146,100 with top earners past $210,000, while Indeed’s small Sydney sample reports far lower. The Glassdoor figure better matches what tech employers actually offer. PMMs with genuine positioning craft and sales enablement experience in B2B software are among the most contested hires in the city.
Brand Manager
Brand managers earn LOW $95,000, MARKET $105,000 to $125,000 and HIGH $140,000, with Indeed reporting a Sydney average of $112,466. FMCG remains the traditional training ground and still pays the most structured increments. Brand managers who can also read performance data, rather than handing digital to someone else, are increasingly preferred and increasingly paid for it.
Management and leadership roles
Digital Marketing Manager
The market’s bellwether role pays LOW $95,000, MARKET $110,000 to $130,000 and HIGH $145,000 to $160,000. Glassdoor reports a Sydney average of $120,000 with a typical band of $95,000 to $140,000, SEEK puts the national average at $105,000 to $125,000, and Indeed trails at $94,709, so the honest answer is that sources vary and the middle of the spread is the safest planning number. Team leadership, budget scale and board level reporting are what separate the top of this band from the middle.
Senior Marketing Manager
Senior marketing managers earn LOW $130,000, MARKET $140,000 to $160,000 and HIGH $175,000. This is the level where bonuses become standard rather than occasional, typically 10 to 20 per cent of base against company and personal targets. Candidates step up the band by showing they have built teams and owned a P and L relevant number, not just campaigns.
eCommerce Manager
eCommerce managers earn LOW $90,000, MARKET $100,000 to $125,000 and HIGH $140,000. Sources split: SEEK reports a national average of $105,000 to $125,000 while Indeed’s Sydney average is $92,374, likely reflecting many smaller retailer roles in the Indeed sample. Managers who own the trading number for a site doing eight figures, and who can run the paid and CRM levers themselves, sit well into the HIGH end.
Marketing Analytics and Martech Manager
The data side of marketing pays LOW $120,000, MARKET $135,000 to $160,000 and HIGH $190,000. Glassdoor reports martech managers averaging $148,500 nationally with the 75th percentile above $190,000, and Sydney pays at or above national. This is arguably the strongest sellers’ market in the whole guide: people who can architect a stack, govern data properly and make attribution honest are scarce, and AI adoption has made them scarcer.
Head of Digital
Heads of Digital earn LOW $160,000, MARKET $180,000 to $220,000 and HIGH $250,000 or more. Glassdoor reports a national average of $200,000 with a typical band of $160,000 to $247,000 and top reports above $300,000. Scope drives everything at this level: owning digital revenue rather than digital activity is the difference between the LOW and HIGH ends.
Head of Growth
Heads of Growth earn LOW $170,000, MARKET $190,000 to $230,000 and HIGH $260,000, and at funded scaleups the cash figure is only part of the story because equity is near universal at this level. The role commands a premium over Head of Marketing at comparable companies because it carries a direct revenue number and usually a shorter leash.
Head of Marketing
Heads of Marketing earn LOW $140,000, MARKET $170,000 to $200,000 and HIGH $230,000 or more. Indeed reports a Sydney average of $188,005 and Glassdoor reports $180,000 with a typical Sydney band of $140,000 to $232,500, so the two big platforms agree unusually well here. Company size is the main variable: the title stretches from 30 person businesses to 500 person ones, and pay stretches with it.
Marketing Director
Marketing directors earn LOW $200,000, MARKET $220,000 to $260,000 and HIGH $300,000. Total packages at this level routinely include bonuses of 20 to 30 per cent, and the SEEK marketing director data for Sydney confirms the role sits well clear of Head of Marketing. Directors bring category experience, board fluency and the scar tissue of having scaled teams through at least one full cycle.
Chief Marketing Officer
Sydney CMOs earn LOW $250,000, MARKET $280,000 to $350,000 and HIGH $400,000 or more in cash terms, with listed company and major scaleup packages going substantially higher once bonuses and equity are counted. Platform data thins out at this altitude because few CMO salaries are advertised, so treat these as informed ranges from reported data rather than deep samples. The strongest CMO packages in 2026 are being written by technology scaleups competing with offshore offers.
Contract and freelance day rates
Sydney’s contract market has stayed liquid through 2026 as businesses hedge permanent headcount. Coordinators and junior specialists contract at $350 to $500 a day. Mid level specialists and channel managers earn $500 to $700. Senior specialists, leads and seasoned managers command $700 to $900, and heads of function or fractional CMOs run $900 to $1,500 a day depending on scope and cadence. On an hourly basis, Payscale’s digital marketing hourly rate data and Glassdoor’s freelance digital marketing data support a working range of roughly $80 to $200 an hour, with senior SEO and performance consultants at the top. Day rates carry no leave, no super in many arrangements and no security, so a fair day rate sits meaningfully above the daily equivalent of the same permanent salary.
Bonuses, commissions and equity
Base salary is a shrinking share of the real story in Sydney marketing pay. Performance bonuses are now standard from manager level up, typically 10 per cent of base at manager level and 20 to 30 per cent at director level, paid against a mix of company revenue and personal objectives. In performance marketing and growth roles, commission adjacent structures are spreading: bonuses tied directly to pipeline, customer acquisition targets or return on ad spend rather than soft objectives. They can be lucrative, but candidates should ask exactly how the target is measured, who controls the inputs and what happened to the last person’s payout.
Equity has moved from a Silicon Valley curiosity to a routine part of senior marketing offers at Sydney scaleups. Heads of Growth, Heads of Marketing and CMOs at venture backed companies should expect options as part of any serious offer, and increasingly senior individual contributors in growth and product marketing receive them too. The questions that matter: what percentage of the company do the options represent, what is the strike price against the last valuation, what is the vesting schedule and cliff, and what happens on exit or departure. An impressive sounding option count with no context is a negotiating tactic, not an offer.
How AI fluency is moving pay
The clearest new pattern in 2026 hiring is that AI fluency now prices into marketing salaries directly. Employers are consistently paying premiums, commonly 5 to 15 per cent against otherwise identical candidates, for marketers who can build AI assisted workflows: automated reporting, creative testing at scale, AI driven audience analysis, content operations that multiply output without multiplying headcount. Analytics and AI capability has become the single most in demand skill cluster in Australian marketing hiring this year, and the effect shows up from specialist level right through to the executive suite, where boards now expect marketing leaders to have an AI operating plan rather than an AI opinion. The flip side is real: roles built purely on production tasks that AI now does well, basic copywriting, routine reporting, simple design coordination, are seeing flat offers. The ranges in this guide are base salary excluding superannuation unless stated otherwise, because that is how SEEK, Indeed, Glassdoor and Payscale predominantly report. Add roughly 12 per cent for super, plus any bonus, to estimate a total package.
What changed this month
This is the inaugural edition of the guide, published July 2026, so the ranges above form the baseline we will track against. Early signals worth naming: martech and analytics pay is running hottest, lifecycle and CRM roles are quietly outpacing general wage growth, and AI fluency premiums have become explicit in offers rather than implied. From next month this section will record genuine movements in the ranges.
