We are not looking for someone to build a perfect system from scratch. We are looking for a Staff Data Engineer who can walk into a complex, high-volume financial data environment, fix what is broken, and build a Snowflake platform the business actually trusts. Then scale it for AI.

The Role

You will own the data platform end to end. Architecture, pipelines, modelling, quality, reconciliation. All of it.

This is a fintech in the middle of a serious transformation. Real transaction volume, real compliance pressure, and a clear push into AI. You are the person who makes the data layer solid enough to support it.

Snowflake is Core

Everything runs through Snowflake. You will:

• Build and maintain a single source of truth
• Design robust CDC pipelines at scale
• Own dbt modelling and transformation layers
• Optimise performance and cost inside Snowflake
• Ensure clean, reliable data for reporting and AI

Financial Data Integrity

This is where you earn your keep. You will:

• Build reconciliation frameworks across systems
• Implement month-end locking and snapshot logic
• Handle late-arriving data and replay scenarios
• Solve identity resolution across multiple platforms
• Deliver auditable, trusted financial reporting

If the numbers do not match, you fix the root cause.

AI-Ready Data Platform

You will not bolt AI on later. You design for it from day one.

• Structure AI-ready datasets and feature layers
• Support ML pipelines and real-time use cases
• Work alongside teams on LLMs and RAG pipelines
• Ensure outputs are traceable and explainable

Ownership

You build it. You own it.

• Data quality monitoring and alerting
• Schema evolution without breaking downstream users
• Clear platform roadmap
• Regular engagement with stakeholders across the business

What You Have Done

• Rebuilt a messy financial data environment
• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, CDC
• Deep understanding of data modelling and pipeline design
• Experience in high-transaction environments
• Delivered data platforms the business actually trusts

Nice to Have

• Multi-entity or multi-currency modelling
• Regulated environment experience
• Exposure to AI or ML workloads
• LLM or RAG pipeline experience

• You prefer strategy over hands-on delivery
• You have not worked with financial or high-volume data
• You do not want full ownership

Location

Sydney CBD. 5 days a week onsite. This is a highly collaborative environment. You will be in the room with the people relying on your data.

Package

$200,000 to $210,000 base, plus super, plus bonus tied to delivery.
