Big Wave Digital is partnering with a high-growth fintech business building out a next-generation platform with a strong focus on AI, automation, and real-time data systems. This is not a maintenance role. This is a build, scale, and lead from the front opportunity. You will step into a Technical Lead position where you will guide a capable engineering team while remaining close enough to the tech to influence architecture, performance, and delivery standards. The environment is fast, commercially driven, and engineering-led. Think modern fintech platform, real users, real transactions, and a clear push toward AI-enabled systems across the stack.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will take ownership of backend engineering direction and help shape how the platform evolves over the next phase of growth. 
- Leading and mentoring a team of Python and Django engineers while setting clear technical direction
- Designing and scaling backend systems in a high-performance fintech environment
- Driving best practice across architecture, code quality, and deployment
- Embedding AI into development workflows using tools such as AWS Kiro, Cursor, or similar agentic environments
- Working closely with product and leadership to translate business goals into technical outcomes
- Overseeing system performance, reliability, and scalability across production environments
- Guiding infrastructure decisions across AWS and Linux-based systems
- Supporting delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives without losing quality
Tech Environment
You will be working across a modern stack that includes:
- Python and Django backend systems
- AWS cloud infrastructure and AWS AI services
- AI-assisted development environments such as Kiro, Cursor, or similar
- Linux-based environments
- Distributed systems and scalable APIs
- Data-heavy workflows with real-time elements
What They Are Looking For
This role suits someone who is both technically strong and comfortable leading from the front. You will likely bring:
- Strong experience building backend systems using Python and Django
- Proven experience operating within Linux environments
- Deep familiarity with AWS, including cloud architecture and scaling systems
- Exposure to AWS AI services or strong interest in AI-driven development
- Experience using or experimenting with tools like Cursor, Kiro, or similar AI coding environments
- Experience leading engineers or acting as a senior technical authority
- A hands-on background before stepping into leadership
- Strong understanding of system design, performance, and reliability
- Ability to balance technical depth with business outcomes
