Android Developer (Mandarin Speaking) | Kotlin | Java | Flutter
Sydney | 6-Month Contract | Immediate Start. In the old schools, a student was judged not by how many techniques they knew, but by how cleanly they could execute the ones that mattered. We are looking for an Android developer cut from that cloth. Fluent in Kotlin, fluent in Mandarin, and fluent in shipping mobile apps that real people rely on every day.

Enter the Dojo
Big Wave Digital is partnering with a growing technology platform seeking an experienced Android Developer to join their mobile engineering team on an initial 6-month contract. This is a chance to work on customer-facing mobile applications used by a large and growing user base.
You will collaborate with talented product managers, designers, backend engineers and QA specialists to build high-quality Android experiences, while helping shape the future of a rapidly evolving platform. Think of it less as a job and more as a training hall where your craft sharpens with every release.
If you are passionate about mobile development, enjoy solving complex technical challenges and thrive in a collaborative environment, we would love to hear from you.
The Role
As an Android Developer, you will design, develop and maintain Android applications while contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the mobile platform. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help deliver scalable, secure and user-friendly mobile solutions that provide exceptional customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test and maintain high-quality Android applications.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers and QA teams to deliver new features and enhancements.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from technical design through to deployment and support.
- Optimise application performance, reliability and user experience.
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, production issues and technical challenges.
- Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code following industry best practices.
- Contribute to code reviews and technical discussions.
- Assist in evaluating and adopting new technologies and development approaches.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the mobile engineering team.
The Forms You Must Master
Every style has its core movements. Here is yours: Kotlin and/or Java, at a professional level. WebView integration, debugging and performance optimisation. Android SDK, Jetpack Components, networking, multithreading and memory management. RESTful APIs and third-party service integration. Git and a modern development workflow. Master these, and the rest follows.

Skills and Experience
- Fluent Mandarin and English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial Android development experience.
- Strong experience developing and publishing Android applications.
- Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
- Experience with Flutter and cross-platform mobile application development.
- Strong WebView integration, debugging and performance optimisation experience.
- Solid understanding of the Android SDK, Jetpack Components, networking, multithreading and memory management.
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and third-party services.
- Familiarity with Git and modern software development workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team.
The Master Level Moves
Useful, but not essential. These are the techniques that mark a true black belt: Jetpack Compose. Coroutines and Flow. Familiarity with MVVM, Clean Architecture or similar design patterns. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing. Experience working on high-volume consumer applications or performance-critical mobile platforms. If you bring these, you will fit right in.

What Is On Offer
- An initial 6-month contract.
- A Sydney-based opportunity.
- A modern mobile technology stack.
- A collaborative and supportive engineering culture.
- The opportunity to work on innovative mobile products.
- Competitive contract rates based on experience.
- Potential contract extension opportunities.
Final Word
A master is not the one who knows the most techniques. A master is the one who ships. If you are a Mandarin-speaking Android Developer who can take a feature from idea to Play Store with clean Kotlin and a calm head under pressure, this contract is worth a serious look.
Bring your discipline. Bring your craft. We will bring the platform, the team and the user base.
