Raiders of the Lost Contract System, anyone?

Big Wave Digital is partnering with one of our clients in Alice Springs to find a rare kind of technology adventurer.

Not someone who wants to hide behind a Teams call from Bondi.

Not someone who says they are “open to relocation” but really means “maybe if it is Melbourne with good coffee”.

We are looking for a genuine Contract Systems Implementation Lead who is ready to pack the metaphorical fedora, head to Central Australia, and lead a 12-month transformation project with real purpose, complexity and impact.

This is not just another systems implementation.

This is a mission.

The quest

Our client is undertaking a major transformation of its contract management infrastructure.

Your job will be to help replace legacy systems with an enterprise-grade contract management solution capable of supporting complex, high-value agreements involving Indigenous land management, Native Title, Aboriginal Land Rights, mining licences, pastoral leases, joint ventures, exploration permits, funding agreements and multi-party commercial arrangements.

So yes, the “treasure” here is not a golden idol.

It is something far more useful: clean workflows, strong governance, smarter compliance, better data, reduced risk, and a contract management system that can support critical agreements for years to come.

Still heroic. Just with fewer snakes. Hopefully.

What you will be doing

You will lead the full implementation journey across 12 months.

Phase one will see you exploring the ruins of the current environment, mapping the requirements, working with stakeholders, leading vendor engagement, shaping RFx activity, assessing solutions, preparing business cases and helping guide executive decision-making.

Phase two will take you into implementation territory. You will help design the roadmap, configure workflows, oversee integration, support data migration, establish governance frameworks, develop training materials, and help transition the system into operational use.

In plain English, you will be the person who can walk into complexity, decode the map, avoid the traps, calm the room, and get the project moving.

What you will need in your satchel

You will likely bring:

  • 7+ years’ experience in contract lifecycle management, contract management systems, legal operations, enterprise business systems, ERP, document management or similar
  • At least 3 years’ experience implementing enterprise contract management or business-critical systems
  • Strong experience leading end-to-end technology implementations
  • Experience with vendor selection, RFx processes, evaluation frameworks and vendor negotiation
  • Strong understanding of contract workflows, approvals, obligation management, renewals and compliance
  • Experience working with ERP, document management systems, data migration and system integration
  • The ability to work confidently with executive leaders, legal teams, finance, operational teams, IT teams and vendors
  • Excellent documentation skills, including business cases, requirements, executive briefings, specifications and user materials
  • A calm, practical and mature delivery style
  • The kind of personality that can handle ambiguity without immediately needing a lie-down

You do not need to be a hands-on engineer, but you do need enough technical literacy to work effectively with IT teams and vendors. You will be leading the expedition, not personally carving the tunnel with a spoon.

Bonus points

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

  • Contract management systems
  • Legal tech or CLM platforms
  • ERP or document management implementations
  • Public sector, not-for-profit or regulated environments
  • Aboriginal organisations or cross-cultural environments
  • Remote or regional work
  • Indigenous data sovereignty, Native Title, land management or compliance-heavy environments
  • Change management in complex organisations

The adventure bit

This role is based in Alice Springs, NT.

It is 5 days onsite.

It is not remote.

It is not hybrid.

It is not “I’ll fly in once a month and do the rest from Sydney”.

You need to be genuinely willing and able to live and work in Alice Springs for the full 12-month contract.

This is the part that matters.

Our client does not just need technical capability. They need someone who genuinely wants the experience, understands the commitment, and is not treating this as a backup plan while waiting for a metro role to appear.

Alice Springs will not be for everyone.

But for the right person, it could be one of the most interesting years of your career.

Sunset over a waterhole in the Northern Territory outback

Think blue skies, short commutes, big landscapes, strong community, outdoor adventure, incredible cultural depth, and the ability to finish work and be somewhere spectacular within 10 to 15 minutes.

It is challenging.

It is remote.

It is different.

It is also the kind of opportunity most people talk about doing “one day” and never actually do.

The treasure chest

The package includes:

  • $174,000 package including superannuation
  • 12-month full-time contract
  • Remote salary sacrifice packaging up to $29,000
  • Return interstate flights home, one trip per month to your capital city during the contract
  • Initial accommodation support, including rent-free and subsidised furnished accommodation
  • Relocation assistance may be available, subject to contract
  • Use of a company town vehicle as required
  • A major transformation project with real purpose and long-term impact
  • The chance to live and work in Central Australia, not just fly in for a photo at sunset

The non-negotiables

You will need:

  • A current Australian driver’s licence
  • The ability to obtain an Ochre Card
  • The ability to undertake a National Police Check if required
  • The ability to work 5 days onsite in Alice Springs
  • A genuine commitment to the full 12-month contract
  • A practical attitude toward regional and remote work

A sense of adventure would also be handy.

Who should apply?

This could suit a senior Contract Management System Implementation Lead, CLM Implementation Specialist, Legal Tech Implementation Lead, Enterprise Systems Project Lead, ERP/Document Management Implementation Specialist, Contract Lifecycle Management Consultant or business systems transformation specialist.

But more than the title, we are looking for the right person.

  • Someone who can lead.
  • Someone who can listen.
  • Someone who can work across technical, legal, operational and executive teams.
  • Someone who can take a complex system challenge and turn it into something useful, sustainable and well adopted.
  • Someone who sees Alice Springs not as a problem, but as part of the opportunity.

Final clue

If your idea of adventure is changing your LinkedIn banner, this probably is not the role.

But if you are a senior systems implementation professional who wants a genuinely meaningful project, a strong package, proper relocation support, flights home, and a year in one of the most unique parts of Australia, then this could be your map.
