Some engineering jobs involve maintaining existing systems. This Senior Space Mechatronics Engineer role is not one of them. We’re partnering with a pioneering Australian deep-tech company building breakthrough technology at the intersection of advanced hardware, software, electronics and control systems – and they want a builder, not a maintainer.
Their team solves complex real-world engineering challenges that demand first-principles thinking, experimentation and genuine innovation. The work combines mechatronics, embedded systems, precision engineering and advanced control systems to create technology that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in the space and deep-tech sector.
If you’re the type of engineer who loves building things from scratch, solving difficult technical problems and seeing your work move from concept to reality, this Space Mechatronics Engineer opportunity could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
The Space Mechatronics Engineer Opportunity
As a Senior Space Mechatronics Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, developing and validating sophisticated mechatronic systems from the ground up. You’ll work across sensors, actuators, embedded electronics, firmware and control systems while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists.
This is a rare opportunity to take genuine ownership of systems end-to-end and help shape the future direction of a rapidly growing deep-tech business. You will not be slotted into a narrow lane – instead, you’ll move fluidly between mechanical design, electronics, firmware and control, owning the hard problems that sit between disciplines where most of the real innovation happens.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and developing advanced mechatronic systems for deep-tech applications
- Owning systems spanning sensors, actuators, embedded electronics and firmware
- Developing and implementing high-performance control systems
- Designing prototypes, test rigs and validation environments
- Solving challenging engineering problems where no established solution exists
- Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Contributing to next-generation product and system architecture
What We’re Looking For in a Space Mechatronics Engineer
You’ll likely bring experience across several of the following areas:
- End-to-end mechatronics system design and development
- Control systems engineering and real-world implementation
- Embedded systems and microcontroller development
- C/C++ programming
- Sensor and actuator integration
- Electronics debugging and system troubleshooting
- First-principles problem solving
- Experience within product development, R&D, robotics, automation, advanced manufacturing or other engineering-led environments

You’ll Thrive Here If You
- Love learning and solving difficult problems
- Enjoy building rather than maintaining
- Take ownership and initiative
- Like working closely with talented multidisciplinary teams
- Are naturally curious and enjoy exploring new ideas
- Want your work to have meaningful impact
Why This Deep-Tech Role Matters
Australia’s deep-tech and space sector is entering a remarkable growth phase, and the engineers who join now will help define what comes next. This is hands-on, high-trust work: you’ll have direct access to founders and technical leadership, real influence over architecture decisions, and the rare satisfaction of watching a system you designed move from a sketch on a whiteboard to validated hardware. For a Space Mechatronics Engineer who is energised by ambiguity and ownership, few environments offer this much room to build.
What’s On Offer
- $140,000 – $200,000 + Super
- Equity participation
- Work on genuinely novel space and deep-tech technology
- Modern workshop, lab and testing facilities
- Learning and development support
- Parental leave benefits
- Direct access to founders and technical leadership
- Significant ownership and influence
- The opportunity to help shape a company during an exciting growth phase
